2021 Boat of the Year Results

The Chicago T-10 Fleet has released the 2021 Boat of the Year Standings and (surprise, surprise!) Erica has once again swept the Port-to-Port, Buoy and Overall Series. Complete results can be found HERE. This continues an outstanding streak for Erica, which swept the series in 2018 and 2019 and took the 2020 PtP series in a year when there was no Buoy or Overall series. Congratulations to Brian Kaczor and crew for another spectacular year!

In the PtP series, Amateur II took 2nd and Retention took 3rd. In both the Buoy and Overall series, Retention was 2nd and Meat was 3rd.

Fleet flags and awards will be handed out this coming Friday, December 3rd at the Chicago T-10 Fleet awards party at Chicago Yacht Club Belmont Station.

Chicago Fleet Captain 2021 Update #1

Sailing season is coming!

As I look out the window today, I see sun, green and I hear the lake calling, it must be time to kick-off the 2021 season. Over the next few weeks, I’ll settle into a weekly cadence of fleet updates and I’ll do my best to pick-up where Mark left off as I always enjoyed his updates and take on the weekend’s races.

Good News! We are planning for a full 2021 season and the board has met to finalize the racing schedule, its attached to this note and available on the website HERE. All the usual races are planned, and we have a very busy month of August…So apologize to your spouse or significant other in advance, hoard your PTO and prepare for some great racing.

As far as open items on the schedule we are looking for another race or two to fill in some of the lighter / longer gaps in the schedule. I have an action to reach out and see if we can’t program in something for those weekends, which are marked on the schedule.

I saw our Class Secretary Mike Platzke is hard at work and has annual dues payment updated for the 2021 season. Please take five minutes of your time to update your contact info and pay your dues through PayPal you can even follow this link if you like. Remember to pay both your National and Local Fleet Dues!

Lastly, as our winter comes to a close, I’d like to take a moment to thank Steve Fink and Aimee Smith for their efforts to facilitate our winter seminar programming, your efforts to keep us together and educated are appreciated.

Don’t Pinch,

Blane

170+ Sailors Pack CYC Belmont Station for Chicago T10 Awards Party

Between 170 and 180 people packed the Chicago Yacht Club Belmont Station on December 6th for the annual Chicago T10 Fleet 2 awards and year end party. This annual celebration of Chicago T10 sailing serves to close out and recap another year of fantastic racing on the water and great times on shore after racing. For the second year in a row, Erica swept the boat of the year series, winning the buoy, port-to-port and the overall. Retention took 2nd in the port-to-port and overall series and was prevented from a second year sweep of second place when Meat squeezed by them for 2nd place in the buoy series. The tightest competition was in the port-to-port series, where 3rd through 7th place was separated by 7 points. The party committee put on another fantastic event, highlighted by the T10 timeline, which showed how the fleet’s boats had changed names throughout the 40+ year history of the fleet.
